Cautiously Optimistic

New job, new manager, new title, new role, new software, new servers.

A lot of things are changing at my current company, hopefully for the better. It seems that we are changing too many things at once, and it could blow up in our face (all your eggs in one basket type of changes).

Typical Business Practice?

I was watching the movie Idiocracy last night on Comedy Central, and it occurred to me that some businesses operate in a similar fashion. In the movie plot the smart people on earth are not breeding at the same pace (or at all) as the dumb people, ergo, in the future the planet is inhabited by morons.

In the case of the business parallel, I posit that certain companies operate, especially in the lower and middle management levels, by promoting the stupid. A typical middle manager has no real skills, no actual mental acuity, and very little personality, and was likely promoted to their current position by someone with even less skills, mental acuity and personality. Why? Because, if they were to hire someone competent, smart and personable they would look even worse by comparison. They would then fear that someone at the executive level* would notice and decide that maybe that smart guy would be better at your job and you might be better as a custodian.

*not likely to happen as executives are supposed to be looking at the "big picture" e.g. checking their portfolio, deciding what yacht to buy, etc.

Great! Another stupid blog by someone nobody knows, about stuff that nobody cares about!

I won't deny that the world needs another blogger like it needs another lawyer (Q. what do you call 5000 bloggers at the bottom of the ocean? A. A good Start), but I feel the need, if only for myself, to write my thoughts down for posterity (sounds grandiose).

My mind has always worked like the internet, various random thoughts strewn throughout space that are linked in some sort of ordered chaos. I wouldn't say I have ADD, but my mind seems to wander, not minute by minute or hour by hour necessarily, but what I find interesting this week may be filed away as a new interest takes it's place and therein lies the reason I selected the title "Haphazard Banal Elucidations" which loosely means: random ordinary explanations.

What will I explain, or make clear? Likely nothing, however, it might be fun going "down the rabbit-hole" and into the "Wonderland" that is my mind.

Currently I plan to update at least once a week, but once in the groove, three to fives times a week seems optimal.
